Dear World Changer,
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
These words were spoken to Joshua, the great and mighty warrior. The one who was on the verge of succeeding Moses. The man who would lead God’s people into freedom and the Promised Land. These words were spoken specifically to Joshua. To renew his faith. To give him strength and hope. To increase his courage and give him something and someone to lean on. These words were powerful and equipped Joshua to move ahead and strive for the greatness God had called him to.
Joshua was not disappointed. God himself led Joshua into victory. He did not just send his angels to surround and uphold Joshua, but personally went ahead of the people.
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
These words were penned for the adventurer, the one who dreams about greatness and seeks out new experiences. The one who abandons the normal and comfortable and sets out to discover something grand. The one who thrives on the thrill of exploring and uncovering. The one who has paid attention to the flickering flame inside their heart and skillfully kindled it into a passionate and furious fire. The adventurer sees the world through the exciting lens of colour even while others view their surroundings as boring and dull. They are brave and put themselves in danger for the sake of doing what is right. They pursue the partially revealed picture of God’s plans, regardless of how overwhelming or impossible it may seem. They pursue because He has promised to journey ahead and lead the way.
These words were spoken to Joshua but they were penned for the adventurer.
“The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; he will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
These words were penned for the obedient one, the one who hears and does not hesitate. The one who is quiet and still. The one who knows the voice of their God and will not ignore his commands. The one who is constantly laying down their life at the foot of the cross and dying to their fleshly desires. The obedient one has a single wish, to follow the Lord wherever he leads. They pack their bags and book their flights even when everything inside is screaming, “Don’t go!” They listen and take action. They do not wait for a ‘better’ time or until they feel ready. The obedient one simply goes, does, speaks. They simply listen for the voice of their faithful guide. They obey because He has promised to never leave them or mislead them.
These words were spoken to Joshua but they were penned for the obedient one.
“The Lord himself will lead you and be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you, so do not lose courage or be afraid.”
These words were penned for the risk taker, the one who counts the cost and gives their all regardless of the consequences. The one who hears the warnings of the people but allows His voice to be louder. The one who sprints along the road less travelled. The one who takes a step onto the roaring waves of the ocean even when the natural laws dictate it is not safe. The world may see the risk taker as irresponsible but that could not be further from the truth. The risk taker may appear to be blindly trusting in vulnerable, wobbly, unstable conditions that could crash at any moment but they are actually in the centre of God’s will. The centre of His will is sometimes dangerous and unknown but the risk taker does not lose momentum because He has promised to be the strength and steadiness fully surrounding every risky, unstable action.
These words were spoken to Joshua but they were penned for the risk taker.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
These words were penned for the leader, the one who has opened their heart and life to others. The one who is humble and serving. The one who moves ahead and takes the hit before anyone else can arrive. The one who makes sacrifices for the sake of those who are closely watching them. The leader has surrendered. The leader is making an impact. They are living above the line, according to a higher standard. They are an example to many. They lead with their actions before their words. The leader is at the front of the line, sometimes the most feared position to be, with great responsibility in their hands, but their trust remains in Him. The leader is not the first, but the second, because He has promised to always lead the way.
These words were spoken to Joshua but they were penned for the leader.
“God is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t worry.”
These words were penned for her, the girl who is the adventurer, the obedient one, the risk taker, and the leader. The girl who leaves her home and travels far and wide to discover all that God has for her. The girl who appears strong but secretly nurtures heartache while saying goodbye to all her loved ones. She will not lose hope, she will not lose faith, she will forever trust in the words of her God and her guide. The Lord himself will always go before her. She has nothing to fear. There is no adventure too grand, no instruction too big, no risk too great, and no leadership position too large for her, for she knows who leads the way. She knows who has her back and who holds her in the palm of their hand. She is a modern day Joshua. She is a great and mighty warrior. She is about to succeed incredibly influential men and women of God. She has already started leading the people to freedom. She pursues, she listens and obeys, she does not lose momentum, and she stands second in line because she knows who her guide is. She trusts in His faithfulness and is not intimidated by the greatness ahead of her.
These words were spoken to Joshua but they were penned for her.
“…but the word of our God stands forever.”
These words were penned for all the modern day Joshua’s. For the adventurer and the obedient one. For the risk taker and the leader. The girl daring to love her peers like no one else will… The girl fighting to find an open door regardless of how many have already closed… The girl breathing life into her dreams. For the girl with a brave spirit and heart full of trust climbing to the top of the mountain, jumping off the highest cliff, and soaring to new destinations. The girl in pursuit of her God ahead of her. These words were written to remind her that His word is forever true. It never fails. If He says it, she can trust it. His promises are forever etched onto millions of pages and may they be permanently sealed onto the heart of the girl embarking on the journey of a lifetime.
Life with Jesus is an exhilarating adventure, my friend. Don’t miss out on the greatest ride of your life. When you feel unsure or afraid, crack open your Bible and let courage fill your heart as you read the words that were spoken to Joshua so many years ago. That ginormous, terrifying, impossible dream you’ve been hiding in your heart… he didn’t give it to you for no reason. Be brave today! And be brave tomorrow. Trusting him is all part of the adventure. I cannot wait to hear of all the places you have been, people you have met, and things you have done!
