Today’s Devo is from “Propel Women” Magazine and was written by Christine Caine. Enjoy!!
We belong to a creative God. He made the world and everything in it, from giant blue whales to tiny, impossibly agile hummingbirds. You were created in the Creator’s image, and therefore you too possess creativity.
(Keep in mind that creativity and artistic ability are not the same thing. So if you can’t play the violin or write sonnets, don’t worry—this still applies to you!)
Creativity is challenging the impossible by breaking out of established patterns, uncovering new solutions, and championing innovation. It also happens to be a lot of fun. Yes, you still need perseverance, Biblical guidance, and occasionally a few cups of coffee to find the best path forward—but when you add creativity to the mix, it’s a whole new ballgame!
So how can you support your creative abilities? Here are a few ways to get started:
- Drop the self-imposed limitations. Do you believe you’re not smart enough, not special enough, or not talented enough? Stop the negative self-talk and remember that you are exactly who God says you are: perfectly built for your purpose!
- Commit to being a lifelong learner. Have you ever noticed the natural interest children have in the world around them? No matter your age, you too can reconnect with that sense of wonder and continue to learn and grow.
- Take risks. When you’re willing to get out of your comfort zones, you’ll find unexpected opportunities. Stepping into the unknown may be a bit scary, but it’s also where the magic happens!
I love the words of Galatians 6:4-5, taken from The Message. It says, “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your life.”
As you apply the words of Galatians to your own life, I look forward to you joining me in the adventure of giving it your creative best!
